Rewinding 20metre antenna for other bands Empty
PostSubject: Rewinding 20metre antenna for other bands   Rewinding 20metre antenna for other bands EmptyFri Jan 13, 2012 4:48 am

Pulled a 20metre antenna apart today and thought I would try and make it a full wave 2metre. Measured the the whip and shaft, made up the rest with the wire and wound it up the shaft soldering it on both ends, the length being 6ft. 5 - 15/32in. or 1.968 Mtrs Got it on the car and connected the analyzer, it was a good match under 1.5swr. Contacted Barry and asked him to make contact, it worked but not as good as the stock antenna Ive got which is a 1/4wave, I'm thinking the radiation pattern is not flat enough hence why they don't sell full wave mobile.

I then tried a 5/8 wave at 4ft. 0 - 7/16in. or 1.230 Mtrs but couldn't get the swr down, I should have tried a half wave to see how that goes but again the dont sell mobile half waves but I have seen 5/8waves. Anyway tried to get the swr down but struggled so I though I would have a look on all the other bands, waheeeeeeeeeeeee great match on 6metres 50mhz lol. SWR 1.5 on 50.500mhz rising to swr1.7 either side of the 50mhz band. So I have a new antenna lol. Will have another go with a cb antenna next week and see where I can get it on 2metres, must try a h/wave

Anyone any ideas on the biggest 2metre antenna you can use mobile.
